Trump claims he could declassify top secret documents just ‘by thinking about it’
Donald Trump says he can decipher top secret government documents by “thinking”.
In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, the former president reiterated his claim that dozens of secrets were seized at the Mar-a-Lago home and confidential documents have been decrypted.
Asked about the process needed to do so, Mr Trump said: “As far as I know, there doesn’t have to be a process. If you’re the president of the United States, you can go and declassify, even think about it.”
Since the Aug. 8 search, the question of whether the documents found at his Florida home remain classified — and how much that affects whether he is allowed to have them — has been debated.
While Mr Trump has repeatedly claimed the documents have been declassified, his lawyers are hesitant to make the same claim in court.
