Tik Tok Announced Wednesday that it is changing How political and government entities use their accounts on the platform. The social media company implemented new policies ahead of November’s midterm elections to combat monetization and misinformation.

TikTok said in a blog post that starting Wednesday, it will begin mandatory account verification for governments, politicians and political parties. As of now, verification badges are optional. The company aims to ensure authenticity to build trust between its creators and community users.

Additionally, TikTok is taking steps to limit political advertising on the app. In August, the social media platform said it would work directly with content creators prevent them from sharing paid political officeNow, TikTok is extending that policy by banning political account holders from accessing advertising and fundraising features.
