Fans of the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso may feel like they’ve fallen off the lucky tree, hitting every branch along the way, as EA Sports has confirmed that both the titular coach and his fictional AFC Richmond team will be added to the playable roster Teams in FIFA 23.
AFC Richmond will be available to FIFA 23 players as a member of the ‘Rest of World’ section of team selection. Richmond can be played in standard matches, online friendly matches, and online seasons.
The team will also be included in the FUT with Ted Lasso and Coach Beard manager items, AFC Richmond uniforms and more. The list will include famous characters such as Roy Kent, Sam Obisanya, Danny Rojas and Jamie Tate. Nelson Road, the team’s home ground, will also be open.
“It’s so cool to be in FIFA,” Emmy-winning actor Brett Goldstein, who played player-turned-coach Roy Kent on the show, said in the official said the press release. “I’m not sure if this will help dispel the CGI rumors, but fuck it, totally worth it.”
Ted Russo tells the story of a college football coach who was suddenly named captain of a fictional Premier League football team. It stars Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso and Hannah Waddingham as team owner Rebecca Welton , and the aforementioned Goldstein et al.
FIFA 23 is the latest installment in EA Sports’ annual football series, and it will be the last game to bear the FIFA name as the series transitions to “EA Sports FC” starting next year. The game will release on September 30 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Google Stadia.
