Former FBI Director James Comey has embarked on a career path that is both unfamiliar and familiar—crime fiction.

Comey has signed a deal for two novels with The Mysterious Press, a division of Penzler Publishers. The first, called “Central Park West,” features an assistant U.S. attorney investigating the Mafia’s ties to the murder of a local politician. The book is scheduled to be published next spring.

“I’m excited to bring readers into the fascinating world I’ve learned while working in government and the private sector,” Comey, who served as an assistant U.S. attorney from 1996 to 2001, said in a statement. “These stories are fictional, but, inspired by real work I do, they will provide rare perspectives on interesting people and institutions.”

Comey is best known for his brief stint as FBI director from 2013 to 2017, when he was arrested by President Donald Trump while the bureau investigated allegations of ties between Russian officials and Trump’s presidential campaign. Ends when dismissed. Comey described his career in his best-selling memoir “Higher Loyalty.”

“When our nation’s leaders — the president or his representatives — attack the judiciary, the rest of us not only need to pay attention, we need to speak up,” Comey told CBS News after the book’s publication in 2018.
