Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s open beta for all players will go live on September 24th and will continue until September 26th, but it appears Xbox players will need Xbox Live Gold to play.

While the game’s next beta goes live this weekend, it looks like Xbox owners will actually need to subscribe to Xbox Live Gold to participate in the event, although PlayStation owners won’t need a Plus subscription (via Charlie Intel on Twitter).

It’s unclear why this is the case, but it’s been confirmed that PCs have limitations as well. While not expensive, players with Battle.net or Steam accounts will need to ensure their respective platforms have linked mobile numbers to access the beta.

The beta version of Modern Warfare 2 begins on September 16, and pre-orders can get early access. It was followed by the first beta for PlayStation, which went live from September 18 to 20, and with two weekends underway, Xbox and PC players can finally join and play. Players should be sent a code to allow them access until the scheduled beta period. In just a few days, beta preloads for Xbox and PC are now live, so users can prepare for the big day.
